UK Game Media Awards Winners are In
In what should have been a boozed-up but generally well-behaved celebration of the UK's video games media by the UK's video games media in London last night turned slightly sour as the event sponsors, Grainger Games, went rogue at the Games Media Awards.

Today the Twitterspehere is alive with complaint and disgust at the behaviour of the sponsors, with the organisers, Intent Media (Develop and MCV among others) about to produce an 'official statement'.

However, what also happened were awards were handed out and SPOnG's Svend got a chance to belt out some Metallica.

The awards go to...

Games Magazine: Edge
Games Website: Eurogamer
Specialist Writer – Print: Christian Donlan – Freelance
Specialist Writer – Online: Keza Macdonald – Ign
Coverage In A National Newspaper: The Guardian
Coverage In A Mainstream Magazine: Shortlist
Regional Games Columnist: Dave Cook – The Scotsman
Games Broadcast/Podcast: Sentuamessage
Games Blog: Rock, Paper, Shotgun
Rising Star: Martin Gaston – Videogamer
Games Media Awards: Colin Campbell

The event sponsor, Grainger Games, won no awards however. SPOnG regular Pete Donaldson points out that: "GG Turned up to Games Media Awards with dwarves, amaciated bikini girls, condoms, ruined event with gobs & buggered off to Stringfellows."

More on the uproar and fallout once Svend recovers...

The organisers, Intent Media have issued a statement in fact. In part this reads:

"At last night's Games Media Awards, many friends and partners of Intent Media were, quite understandably, upset and offended by the behaviour of the event's headline sponsor, Grainger Games.

I'd like to take this opportunity to apologise wholeheartedly for this – and to make it very clear that Grainger will not be welcome back in any capacity to the GMAs, or any Intent Media events."
