Rejoice! Ni no Kuni, the role-playing collaboration between Level-5 and Japanese animation studio Ghibli, is to see a European release on the PlayStation 3 in 2012. Thank Namco Bandai for this one.
Known as Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, players will journey with a young boy called Oliver, who wishes to bring back his recently-deceased mother. By stepping into a parallel world, he hopes to become a magician so that his dream can come true. N'aww.
The game has gained cult popularity in Japan and the West for it representing a crossover of the ages - RPG legends Level-5 has been responsible for Dragon Quest VIII and the Professor Layton series, while Studio Ghibli has created some of the most enchanting stories in animation history with My Neighbour Totoro, Spirited Away and Laputa Castle in the Sky.
Namco Bandai's European publishing arm is eager to introduce the title to the region. “The incredible people involved in this game give it a pedigree that is rarely seen in video games, and it’s a fantastic addition to our line-up for 2012,” said senior VP Olivier Comte. “It takes a very hard heart not to be thoroughly enchanted by the amazing universe they have created together.”
