Zynga Seeks Split from Facebook with Project Z Website
Social gaming powerhouse Zynga - developers of the madly popular FarmVille - has decided that its future is away from Facebook. The company, which made its millions on the social network, is launching its own independent gaming website.

The new social platform, titled Project Z, will utilise Facebook Connect to take all of its customers along with it. 'Ville fanatics will be able to create a graph of friends from their list of Facebook contacts, before 'importing' them directly to the Project Z website.

There is a bit of give and take, though - save games on Zynga products will be synced between Project Z and Facebook accounts. So you will be able to start a session of the company's new game, CastleVille, on Project Z and continue it on Facebook, and vice versa.

John Schappert, Zynga's COO (and formerly of Electronic Arts fame) said that "Project Z is a Facebook connect platform that leverages your Facebook friends to play in an environment tailored with just your friends. We learn a lot more about our players, not just from stats but from talking to them, and this is what they wanted.”

There's no way that Zynga will truly break from Facebook any time soon - the company depends on the income generated by the virtual currency that users buy on the platform. But the social network takes a 30 per cent cut of each transaction made with Facebook credits, which might be why Zynga is slowly pushing its own agenda.
