It's been a week since Gears of War 3 was finally released to the gaming public and – as expected – it's the current number one in the charts. Today Epic has revealed exactly how many copies they shifted and it's pretty impressive.More than three million copies were sold in the game's first week of release making it the biggest seller of 2011 so far. On top of that, the series has now surpassed the billion dollar mark in sales, joining a very select group of games including
Halo,
Call of Duty and
FIFA. Will it still be the biggest game by the time the end of the year rolls around though?
Microsoft's Phil Spencer is positive, saying that
Gears 3 "kicked off the biggest Christmas period in Xbox history, setting the standard for the kind of amazing, action-packed experiences gamers should expect on Xbox 360 this year". So even if it doesn't end up being the biggest game of the year, it's at least done its bit to help Microsof and Epic's already overflowing coffers.
Don't forget: SPOnG's running a little giveaway with a rather splendid
Gears of War 3 Vault Case from Calibur up for grabs.
Head over here, answer a single question and you could be walking away with it. Be quick though – it closes tomorrow.
