Amazon's New Kindle Fire is a Games Machine Too
To much "Woo-hooing" and an apparent embargo break by Bloomberg, Amazon has announced it's 'Fire' version of Kindle. The unit comes with a colour, 7-inch screen and will cost $199 compared to $499 for an entry level iPad in the USA.

It will also, as you can see from the image in this story, enable users to play games such as Angry Birds via its Android operating system.

Bloomberg's early report states that, "The Kindle Fire doesn’t have an embedded camera or a microphone. The device offers Wi-Fi connectivity, though not 3G access, and comes with a 30-day free trial of Amazon Prime, the company’s $79-a-year membership service that includes streaming video and free two-day shipping."

The Guardian has a live blog of the reveal here.

I can see why people bought a Kindle over (or in addition to) an iPad - because it was just different enough and had a specific purpose. I don't think this one will be nearly as successful.

Consumers will compare it directly with the iPad, and at the moment that is the hot gadget to beat. Without 3G, a camera, microphone and tiny 7" screen, I'm not sure people will be sold on it over Apple's tablet.
