Some of the biggest companies in gaming are preparing to unleash new releases powered by Adobe's latest developments: Flash Player 11 and AIR 3.As technology moves on at a rapid pace the latest versions will apparently "allow game publishers to instantly deliver console-quality 2D and 3D games over the Internet." Now, whether this is PS1 quality or something a bit more modern, we're yet to see. The developers seem quite excited though...
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like they're going to be stretching their skills too far. Ubisoft, makers of
Assassins Creed and
Rayman, is promising the thrills of looking after virtual animals in
Petz World while Zynga is offering "next-generation" of their games. That'll be a slightly prettified
FarmVille then.
There are bonuses though. Rather than working from the ground up for every device, developers can build their games using Flash knowing that a huge range of platforms will run them. Flash is everywhere. We all know that and we know that it's capable of doing some pretty impressive things. If only the developers would push the boundaries a bit and really go for something different.
With Flash running on 98% of all internet-connected PCs and nearly one billion smartphones worldwide it's great that Adobe are giving developers the tools to create games and applications with some grunt behind them. Now, how do we convice that us gamers want something a bit more taxing than
Mafia Wars?Source:
