Toys R Us Declares Spyro One Of Its "Fab 15"

Skylanders could well be the greatest thing ever, seriously.

It's ridiculous how much I want this game.

As Christmas approaches, it looks like the big companies are getting sorted as they decide what they'd like to really push for 2011. The American arm of Toys R Us has today released its list of what it believes will be the big toys for the season and while we wouldn't normally focus on that industry, something on their list piqued our interest.

In amongst the Moshi Monsters and Trash Pack Garbage Truck (no, me neither) sits Skylanders: Spyro's Adventures. The latest in the very long running series is a huge leap forward for the game, combining the usual platforming action you'd expect with a real-life element.

Skylanders are small plastic toys that will be available for players to collect and trade. The cool thing is that Spyro's Adventures (available on 360, PS3, 3DS and Wii) will ship with a peripheral called the Portal of Power. When the toy is placed on the Portal, the same character immediately drops into the game for the player to control.

With each of the 32 available characters bestowed with different powers, your collection has a major impact on your gameplay experience. With the game due for release in mid-October and support from massive retailers like Toys R Us, this could well be Spyro's biggest game yet.

Sean Lowe, you're looking at it, Skylanders is the big platformer of this year. If you don't think that looks good enough buy the 3DS version, adds the godly ability to jump and comes with an exclusive character. Looks fantastic. And if you don't like that, just buy Super Mario 3D Land when it is out. I will be buying all of them on day one.
