Another Australian game dev has seen its final day as EA has shut the doors on the Melbourne branch of its Visceral Studio. While only a small group, the twenty-one staff have had a hand in games such as Dead Space and Dante's Inferno and were rumoured to have been working on a brand new game for some time.It seems that despite being in development for the PS3 and 360 for the past three years, vice president of EA Games Patrick Soderland has decided that the mysterious new title would not be profitable and has shut down both the project and studio. EA has other studios in Australia of course, but it would appear that neither Iron Monkey or Firemint have been affected.
EA are yet to officially comment on the closure of Visceral Melbourne but it's really not a good time for the games industry in Australia. Along with this report, there have also been closures of two THQ studios and the
collapse of LA Noire developers Team Bondi. As always, we wish the folks at Visceral the best.
