Another week, another bad announcement
Another UK studio looks dangerously close to closing after Codemasters announced today that plans are in motion to shut down its Guildford facility responsible for the recent Bodycount shooter.

A period of consultation kicked off today that will make the call on whether it will survive or not but in thirty days it looks like the sixty-six members of staff will be out of work.

The Guildford team were last responsible for Bodycount, the FPS which met with pretty average reviews and barely troubled the charts. Focus at Codemasters appears to be switching to its racing titles and anyone who loses their jobs will be "encouraged to apply for suitable positions on campus (the Warwickshire HQ) and in the Birmingham studio" to work on other franchises like F1, Dirt and Grid.

A brand new IP revolving around racing is also in the works, so we hope that the vast majority of Guildford's workers will be able to make the jump and somehow stay with the company. It's never good news to hear of industry redundancies and we wish the team the best during this tricky time.
