Namco Bandai has announced that its insanely-anticipated Japanese RPG, Tales of Xillia, has passed the 500,000 unit mark in terms of shipments to stores. The surprising thing about this is that the game was only released a day ago - prompting pundits to place big bets on it hitting No.1 in next week's chart.Andriasang reports claims of sellouts from retailers across the country, while producer Makoto Yoshizumi had previously said it had broken records to become the most pre-ordered game in the series. The
Tales series is incredibly popular in Japan, but this is the first original title in the series to hit the PlayStation 3.
That HD experience, a theme song from popular J-pop songstress Ayumi Hamasaki and several collaborations - including one with Namco Namja Town - for the franchise's 15th Anniversary have all contributed to the popularity of
Xillia, Namco Bandai revealed.
Hopefully we don't have to wait too long for a Western release for this one.
