Following the rumours last month that Nintendo was planning on redesigning the relatively new 3DS, it's come out that well... they're true. Kind of. Japanese magazine Famitsu has revealed images of the new Expansion Slide Pad that bolts on to the right-hand side of the unit to provide a second analogue slider. In a feature on the upcoming
Monster Hunter 3G game, series supervisor Ryozo Tsujimoto refers to the device as a "secret weapon". It looks like a cradle for your 3DS to slot into, adding bulk to an already decent sized unit. If Nintendo does indeed have plans for a total redesign of the 3DS (and they do, we all know it) surely this is a decent pointer towards what it has planned.
As the Expansion hasn't even officially been announced yet, there's no word on when it will be released. There's also no confirmation as to whether the device has been specifically designed for the
Monster Hunter game, but now that it's out there other developers will invariably be considering what they'll be able to do with it.
More information on the game and the Expansion Slide Pad will be announced at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show. Now, who'll take bets on a fully re-designed 3DS announced by Christmas 2012?
