Wild 'Twin Stick 3DS' Rumours Flare Up
Get your trusty pile of salt ready - rumours are flying all over the place that Nintendo is looking for ways to reiterate the 3DS handheld, with the most extreme whispers suggesting that a new model will be introduced that downplays the 3D effects and includes a second circle pad.

The rather extreme claims come from French website 01net, which cites an unnamed source in reporting that Nintendo engineers are "spending many sleepless nights working on an additional device" that apparently attaches to the 3DS as a peripheral.

Quite how such a peripheral would achieve the downplaying of the 3DS' stereoscopic effects is a mystery to us all. Nintendo isn't dignifying the report with a response, telling Official Nintendo Magazine that it "does not comment on rumour and speculation."

It's worth pointing out that 01net has a history of speculating wildly about various things. But it got a vague detail about the Wii U right or something, so everyone is treating the rumour as gospel. We would recommend you start chucking aforementioned salt over your shoulder.

Do you think it's utter nonsense, or something that Nintendo ultimately needs to do to regain favour with its loyal fanbase?

I would doubt such a major redesign would come this soon, having said that, I also would have doubted such a drastic price drop coming this soon, with Nintendo, anything is possible, and short of something cliiping roughly where the 3D slider is so you can't knock it up to full, I can't imagine how it will downplay the 3D without releasing a new unit altogether.

Bullshit if I ever heard it.. first of all if it had a second circle pad then that would mean that ANYONE who owned a normal 3DS would not be able to play any games that take advantage of both circle pads... secondly.. down-play the 3D?! so that would mean it would be known as the "Nintendo 3DSish"..?

Lastly... Anyone get the feeling that Sony handed someone a good bit of cash to say this in order to stop the growing sales of the 3DS since the price drop? It does not seem too far off because even with the Vita being much more powerful than the 3DS.. its very hard to turn your nose up at a price tag of £115 compared to the price the Vita will cost.

Then again I could be wrong but maybe on another thought.. the second circle pad is not true and all this will turn out to be is a cheaper, more affordable model to exist along-side the original 3DS much like how there is a cheaper PSP coming out with less features.

We all know the video game industry is not squeaky clean when it comes to trying to get the advantage over business rivals so I am going to sit back and see which story is true.

It's just Nintendo on the "new version" bandwagon they always get into with their handhelds. How log was the fat DS out before the lite appeared? How long after that did it take for the DSi, DSiXL, etc. Plus all the colour special editions.

Nintendo just churns these versions out and people, especially in Japan, keep buying them up.
