Retail breaks embargo, putting GameCube and Xbox head-to-head tomorrow!
Stunning news has emerged from the States that will see US retail ship the GameCube early. Coming from nowhere, planetgamecube has reported that US retail will begin selling GameCube hardware and software, as of tomorrow. And what happens tomorrow? Yup, it’s Xbox launch day!

What comes as more of a surprise is the fact that Nintendo has fully backed this move, and is happy to break its own release date of 18th of November, the site has reported.

Posting live updates, planetgamecube states that GameCube product is available throughout America. It also says that Nintendo is turning a blind eye to the sales and not imposing its usual penalty of withholding stock.

A UK Nintendo spokesperson, a little unsure about what to make of it all, was sticking to the company line. “As far as we are aware, the GameCube will still launch on November 18th. We have been told nothing by Nintendo America that has led us to believe that this date has changed.” When pressed as to whether Nintendo has allowed sales to commence early, we were told, “There is no official line on what happens if products are sold before the launch date. I doubt if [Nintendo America] would like it though.”

With the stateside launch of the Xbox tomorrow, it will be an interesting few days in the life of American videogame retail. We will bring you updates as we get them.
