UPDATED: Retailers Begin Nintendo 3DS Price War
The inevitable price war has begun amongst retailers today over Nintendo's 3DS handheld, which is due to officially drop in RRP tomorrow. Once more, supermarkets are making the most aggressive moves, with Tesco selling the device for just £115.

The new price represents a whopping 50 per cent off the launch price of the console, which was released in March to a somewhat healthy response before sales numbers started dropping off. Nintendo has blamed a lack of first-party support in preparation for the 3DS launch as a reason for the official price cut.

Other retailers will be hitting similar price points. Morrisons is listing a price tag of £120, while Sainsbury's is going for £139.99. GameStop UK is offering a 3DS for £134.97.

There has been concern from specialist retailers in the past about being able to keep up with the aggressive pricing from supermarkets on video games. According to MCV, there is significant market worries building from Tesco's actions here too. It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out.

UPDATE - 12/Aug/2011: Specialist retailer GAME has been in touch - twice - with SPOnG to let us know about its Nintendo 3DS offers.

Last night it offered a price of £99.99 for a console and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D for a trade-in with a DSi or DSi XL. That has since been changed this morning to £99.99 for a DSi trade-in, and £59.99 for a DSi XL trade-in. For just a 3DS without Zelda, you can get a further £10 discount.

The 3DS console on its own will be sold for £149.99, and a console with Zelda will set you back £159.99. GAME's online shop will knock a fiver off of that price, and will also offer a guaranteed £150 in trade-in credit until 25th August.

We have asked GAME for comment on the overnight pricing change.
