SEGA: Binary Domain is a Sci-Fi Drama
Binary Domain director Daisuke Sato has told SPOnG that the game will feature the same dramatic and emotional story elements as those seen in the Yakuza games.

Showcasing the third person shooter at E3 last week, the developer - who is known for his past work on Kazuma Kiryu's PlayStation 3 adventures - added that creating a new IP in Binary Domain was a challenge that they did not want to take lightly.

"It's a huge task that we’ve set ourselves - a game totally different from Yakuza," Sato admitted when asked why the SEGA studio decided to head in this sci-fi direction. "But as a company and a studio we have to try and set up new IP, so that was one of the objectives.

"Every game we create always has this high level of dramatic and very emotional experiences. That was true for the Yakuza games. We're not going to sacrifice that side of things for this game. We wanted to try creating a dramatic experience in a science fiction setting, and the most suitable game genre that works with that is a third person shooter."

Sato was keen to stress that no science fiction films in particular influenced the studio's direction, noting that "any good movie or other reference point we'll try and soak that in and apply it in our own way." But from a personal standpoint, he added that he really likes i-Robot and The Terminator.
