PlayStation Network Back Up - Amazon Servers Source of Hack
The PlayStation Network came back to life over the weekend - at least in part - with users asked to supply new passwords. It also reporting that the source of hack that brought the service down has been discovered: Amazon.

Bloomberg reports that, "Amazon.com Web Services cloud- computing unit was used by hackers in last month’s attack against Sony Corp's online entertainment systems, according to a person with knowledge of the matter."

The report continues in slightly less obviously thrilling manner, "The hackers didn’t break into the Amazon servers, the person said. Rather, they signed up for the service just as a legitimate company would, using fake information."

It then beefs things up a bit with some "analysis", "Even so, the role of Amazon Web Services is likely to call attention to concerns some businesses have voiced over the security of computing services delivered via others’ remote servers, referred to as cloud computing."

Amazon hasn't commented yet.

Seems fairly typical buck-passing as part of disgraceful handling throughout by Sony - in the entire month I've only received one mail from them stating of the initial outage (and then it was well over a week after the wording of said mail had been publicised online). Apology? Notification? Forget it!
