The Summer of Sonic convention is set to return to London on the 25th June, to give Sonic the Hedgehog fanatics the perfect chance to celebrate the blue blur's 20th Anniversary - and it's already looking like the most popular year in the event's history.

The convention, hosted at the Camden Centre opposite Kings Cross St. Pancras train station, is free to attend, but a facility to allow long-distance travellers to reserve a place inside the venue was opened yesterday morning at 10am. It closed ten hours later, at 8pm, with all available reservation spaces filled up - making it a 'sellout' a good eight weeks before the event kicks off!

SEGA is officially sponsoring the fan-run event, making this the primary focus for the company's brand and marketing plans for the character's 20th Anniversary. The one-day event will open its doors at 9am and close at 8pm, promising eleven hours of fun including quizzes, cosplay contests and other activities. We reckon first plays of newly-announced Sonic Generations and a new Mario & Sonic game would be high on the agenda, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

Three special guests have been confirmed so far to attend this year's event - Ian Flynn and Tracy Yardley from the American Archie Sonic comics, and writer of 1990s UK Sonic the Comic, Nigel Kitching. Many more guests have yet to be revealed. The convention has previously played host to performances from composer Richard Jacques, Sonic rock band Crush 40 and singer Bentley Jones in past years.

Those who have not managed to reserve a space for entry can still visit The Summer of Sonic 2011 convention on the day from 10am, as a lot of space has been promised for those who live close by or have been unlucky enough to not reserve a place.
