The Sun Gets Dizzy in 3DS 'Outrage'
UK published and US-owned tabloid 'newspaper' The Sun has gone for another anti-gaming story today. Rather than publish facts regarding charitable donations made by the major platform holders for example, it's gone with: "3DS refund row hits Nintendo".

The ever-on-the-ball paper has posted a report stating that:

"FURIOUS gamers made ill by Nintendo's new 3DS console have been REFUSED full refunds."

Not only that but, "Record return levels were reported after thousands suffered headaches and dizziness. Many only got some cash back from shops - or nothing at all."

Exactly where the stats for these 'Record levels' come from is, of course, left unstated. Instead one man is quoted as saying that, "I lost money in just 24 hours. There will probably be more people in my position."

For its part, Nintendo is quoted, "Last night Nintendo said feedback was "overwhelmingly positive", adding returns are "in single figures per retailer."

As a statement of personal interest here, playing with the 3DS supplied for free to SPOnG by Nintendo, on full 3D settings has, in fact, made me queasy. However, it had been made clear many months ago that this could be likely. Senior writer Mark Johnson and Joypod's Elmo - who is currently road-testing the device - have reported no such problems.

Has the 3DS made you ill? Were the sales instructions not clear enough? If so, or if not, please tell us in the comments below.

I've played enough of the demo units around town to see that flicking between having the 3D on and not can cause your eyes to take time to refocus. That and it also depends on how much screen time you spend daily too I think (if you have a desk job that requires looking at a screen continuously then that will play a major factor in how much it will wear on you or not).

Still, its a pricey but interesting device. Maybe when more games come out I will consider purchasing one.

Yes the 3DS has made me ill, It's depressed me and is constantly in the back of my mind. All because my wallet can't afford one at the moment...

But seriously, who takes any notice of 'The Sun'?

Must have put in 25 hours on the console since launch with no headaches or sickness. Full depth in games such as Ridge Racer and Pilot Wings can sometimes pull my eyes but a quick adjustment on the depth slider sorts it. Tabloid fuss over nothing.

i think it is a massive blow for Nintendo as the parents of all the spoilt brats may hold off getting their kids a 3DS. its the usual case. ungrounded health scares will put parents off. but an 18 certificate wont hurt 8 year old little jimmy!

i have one it made my wife and i sick the first night we had it, I also got a massive headache the second day that scared me to play with the 3d off most of the time. however the more you get use to the 3d the more you can take of it. it looks super by the way. best nintendo hand held ever even if you never use the 3d

Has the 3DS made you ill?

Yes. I drank way too much at the launch event and felt terrible for the whole of the next day.

Seriously, where is Teh Sun's outrage over 3D at the cinema? I had a splitting headache after watching Dawn Treader, and there was no "off" switch for the 3D, let alone an alternative 2D showing. Bet the Nestle lovers at the Odeon would have laughed in my face had I asked for my money back.

Any faux 3D will result in eye strain, as your eye unconsciously try to converge and focus on something that ain't there. You've got to train yourself to "let it wash over you". A bit like the shaky handcam in Cloverfield - any attempt to focus results in ocular agony

I think there is a genuine problem, that's effecting more people than Nintendo expected it too, but obviously the Sun is blowing this completely out of the water, but its going to hit ninty hard I bet.

And now the paper with yesterdays news today 'Metro' has just jumped on the bandwagon or copied the story if you'd like.

Hopefully all the s**tstorm will lower the 3DS's price (right)
