It’s total handheld domination in the Japanese Video Game Chart this week (courtesy Media Create), with Tecmo Koei’s Dynasty Warriors 7 on PS3 the only home console break in the Top 10. Square Enix’s PSP remake of Final Fantasy IV breezes to the #1 spot with over 100,000 units sold.
1 Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection – Square Enix (PSP) – 104,173 / NEW
2 Dynasty Warriors 7 – Tecmo Koei (PS3) – 36,548
3 Gundam the 3D Battle – Namco Bandai (3DS) – 23,500 / NEW
4 Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy – Square Enix (PSP) – 21,741
5 Monster Hunter Portable 3rd – Capcom (PSP) – 16,444
6 Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask – Level-5 (3DS) – 16,294
7 Phantasy Star Portable 2 – SEGA (PSP) – 14,403
8 Nintendogs + cats – Nintendo (3DS) – 13,219
9 SD Gundam G Generation World – Namco Bandai (PSP) – 10,160
10 Pokemon Black and White – Pokemon Company (DS) – 10,025
Interesting to note that the PSP is seeing something of a resurgence following the launch of the Nintendo 3DS - but it’s worth bearing in mind that Japan has had the stereoscopic device on store shelves for a longer period of time. Nintendo’s side is still well represented with Gundam the 3D Battle hitting #3 and Professor Layton stopping by at #6.
The race between 3DS and PSP is even closer in the hardware chart, where Sony’s portable has been given a serious kick up the backside - from 22,911 units to 50,479 units - putting it just a few hundred consoles shy of Nintendo’s 50,710. The 3DS is the only platform to see a dip in sales over last week, but then again it’s still sitting pretty at the top so what’s the care?
