Japanese Wii Video Service Closing Down
Your Wii might not be able to play DVDs, but in Japan the console has been able to stream TV programmes and films via the Minna no Theater Wii (Everyone's Theater Wii) video on demand channel. But not for much longer - operator Fujisoft has announced that the service will be shutting down in October.

Why? The company said that alternative streaming solutions had meant that the WiiWare app had "lost its uniqueness," according to Andriasang. From PCs to smartphones and internet TVs, you can pretty much get streaming services anywhere in Japan, making Fujisoft's offering slightly redundant.

The service ran from January 2009, and offered rentals of anime, variety shows and Hollywood films for 100 to 400 Wii Points a pop. Users had to first purchase a WiiWare application, priced at 500 Points. Ahead of its cancellation the application will be removed from sale on 30th April.
