Nintendo is on track to smash UK launch records with the 3DS, as pre-order numbers surpass that of the Wii and race towards the magic 100,000. When the new handheld hits store shelves, it will have the most successful console launch ever in the country.Andy Yates, Nintendo UK's head of sales, told
MCV that there's a chance that pre-orders could skyrocket even further as the company has plenty of hardware left to go around. "Our target was to get over 100,000 pre-orders – and we’re in line with that. So far, we’ve already beat our personal best for a console launch.
"With three weeks to go we’re in a great position, as pre-orders are still building. The message to retail right now is that availability is strong and stores can plan with confidence to keep the accelerator on," Yates added, noting that retailers are 'relieved' to be hosting a major platform launch in March - a traditionally quiet period for the games industry.
No doubt we'll be seeing a lot more advertising and marketing waffle as we approach the big 25th March launch day. How far can the pre-orders go? Place your bets now, readers!
