Looks like Dante will be the next video game hero to get the silver screen treatment. Sony Pictures subsidiary Screen Gems has purchased the rights to make a film based on Capcom's Devil May Cry series. It's possible - very possible - that we know where this journey is going to take us. But, the studio has had a profitable relationship with Capcom. Its
Resident Evil adaptations have grossed over $580 million worldwide, and it's looking to recreate the same level of success with
Devil May Cry.
The script for Dante's tale of demonic revenge will be written by Kyle Ward, whose credits consist of the short indie movie
3 Rounds. He is currently penning the stories to
Fiasco Heights and the upcoming
Kane & Lynch adaptation, so his work is as-yet unproven. We obviously hope it's good though.
No word at this early stage if the focus is on old-school Dante or the upcoming nu-metal Dante in Ninja Theory's reboot... but wouldn't it be confusing if the studio decided to ignore both of them and go for a completely original take on the character? Is confusing the right word..?
