Ubisoft has announced a sequel to Call of Juarez! Hooray! But there's a twist - it's ditching the 19th Century setting and sensibilities, and throwing in some modern-day themes instead.
Dubbed The Cartel, this new entry in the Western gun-slinging shooter will see you journey from present-day Los Angeles to Juarez in Mexico. It smacks a little bit of EA's recent modern reboot of Medal of Honor, itself a clear reaction to the success of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Can Activision lay claim to this strange change of setting too?
Apparently the game will be mixing the "best elements of the Wild West to a new and modern setting." It'll have a mature story, and will contain men in back alleys wearing cowboy hats, it seems.
Techland is developing Call of Juarez: The Cartel for PS3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC platforms for a Summer 2011 release date.
