Nintendo fondly remembers the explosive launch of the Wii back in 2006, but perhaps looks at the incredible stock shortages that followed with a little less happiness. With the 3DS launching in March however, the company has declared that it is well prepared.MCV has reported that manufacturing has ramped up in response to "phenomenal pre-order demand" in the UK. The 3DS is expected to be more sought-after than the Wii was back in 2006, with the momentum of pre-orders already going faster than expected.
Although plenty of retailers have spoken of their excitement about the 3DS, MCV also suggests that a repeat of 2007's Wii shortages will not happen due to new stock arriving on a regular basis. There's nothing to back that up though, so it's probably best to get that pre-order in as soon as possible just in case Nintendo's caught with its pants down again.
