One of the issues to arise from the European launch of the Nintendo 3DS was the lack of firm pricing in the region. We, however, asked the hard questions in our interview with Nintendo's UK Marketing Manager, James Honeywell.

SPOnG: So, the Nintendo 3DS. We know a date - 25th March - but we’re not rock-solid on the pricing yet. HMV’s saying £230, Play’s saying £220. What’s the official number?

James Honeywell: Well, there is no official price. Nintendo doesn’t actually set retail prices. All we do is actually communicate to our retail partners the cost price - it’s then up to them to determine how much they will actually go on to sell it for.

So, what has happened throughout the day is that obviously, we’ve had a discussion with our retail partners, they’ve had that communicated, they’ve then worked out how much and that’s why you’re starting to see some of those prices for pre-orders go live. So it is now somewhere between £219 and £229.

SPOnG: You’re saying that’s a good, final number that you’re happy with?

James Honeywell: Yeah.

ShopTo.net is £199.85. Showing again that retail prices are a sham 80% of the time.

Not really a sham are they? Retail pays rent, rates and staff, and is there when you have a problem. Internet sales are box shifters, lower costs, but lower levels of service. And many of them are exploiting a loophole (on games sales at least) that reduces tax Revenue, resulting in your (or your parents) paying more in taxes, and getting less in services. So when you are an old man, who cannot get the medicines you badly need on the national health, remember that cheap video games contributed to the state of affairs.

Oh shut up! Yes internet companies can obviously afford to sell things cheaper, it's not about to bring down the country though, thats down to the idiot bankers and government not doing their jobs properly.

Play.com have it for £202 now. so it is going down in price.
I would say given the tech £200 is a reasonable price...
