Lack of Publisher Support to Blame for Death of Games Industry Legend's Next Title
As bad news goes, this really sucks
David Braben - games industry legend for Elite if nothing else, and he's done a great deal more - has had to cancel his next game The Outsider.
Braben's UK-based Frontier Developments team was working on the project which was announced in 2005. It had, apparently, been finding a publisher for the game problematic. A mooted deal with EA came to nothing recently according to RPS.
EA, however, was not the first suitor to spurn the game. Codemasters also looked at and then dropped the title from its plans.
According to the RPS report, "There have, he claims, been relatively few lay-offs. Late last year 12 people lost their jobs, and yesterday a further 17 reportedly found out they were out of work. If true we wish them well, and hope they swiftly find new positions."
