Nintendo has announced its 3DS launch lineup - with Kid Icarus and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D nowhere in sight - and a confirmed battery life that will concern many prospective first-day buyers.According to
information from Nintendo, the 3DS will offer no longer than five hours of gaming on a single charge, and will cost gamers three and a half hours to recharge it. That number is with your brightness turned all the way up, though. Classic Nintendo DS titles will make the console last a bit longer at 5-8 hours.
The games that will be sitting on store shelves alongside the new handheld in Japan on 26th February will include
Nintendogs + cats,
Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition,
Winning Eleven 3DSoccer and
Ridge Racer 3D. A total of eight launch titles have been confirmed, below:
Nintendogs + cats (Nintendo) - ¥4,800
Winning Eleven 3DSoccer (Konami) - ¥5,800
Combat of Giants Dinosaurs 3D (Ubisoft) - ¥5,040
Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition (Capcom) - ¥4,800
Samurai Warriors Chronicle (Tecmo Koei) - ¥6,090
Puzzle Bobble 3D (Square Enix) - ¥4,980
Ridge Racer 3D (Namco Bandai) - ¥6,090
Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask (Level-5) - ¥5,980
If you're wondering where all the heavy third-party support went, it seems that many of the publishers are holding off for a few weeks before releasing their wares. Dead or Alive Dimensions is set for a 24th March release, while a selection of other titles will be scattered around February and March.
Arc System Works did throw in a surprise at the Nintendo World event this weekend by announcing a release of
BlazBlue Continuum Shift II for the 3DS. It'll be hitting this spring, and is listed as a "fighting game + visual novel." Interesting.
SPOnG will be attending a similar Nintendo event next week - no doubt to learn more of the 3DS' European launch - so check back soon for our coverage.
Thanks,
