Sony Computer Entertainment has announced that the PlayStation 2 has surpassed the golden milestone of shipping 20 million units across the world, an excellent achievement.
Total sales across the world break down like this: 6.86 million in Japan, 8.55 million in North America and 4.63 across Europe. Not bad going for a console just over a year old.
Sony has also stated that it will release some novelty coloured PlayStation 2 consoles to celebrate this, announcing that it will begin to ship red, silver, blue, white and yellow hardware units.
In related news, SCE said that it had finalised the spec and pricing point for the Asian PlayStation 2 hardware. The unit will retail across South Asia for around £200 and will play region 3 DVD’s when it goes on general release on December 13th. Metal Gear Solid 2 will launch with the machine.
