Seen enough fitness video games on the market already? Well hold on to your butts, because we'll be seeing a lot more of them in the future - particularly as sales of fitness games have been said to destroy those of the more traditional fitness DVD.According to numbers collected by
MCV, Davina McCall's string of best-selling workout videos have sold 830,000 units in the last four years. Nintendo's
Wii Fit has sold over 4.4 million units in less than three.
Nintendo marketing man Rob Lowe said that "Games provide a whole fitness programme that targets different areas of the body. The DVDs are more focused on one particular subject or type of fitness, and only last on average around 60 minutes."
Of course, you are paying around three times as much on a fitness game (without a Balance Board) then you are on a DVD, but nonetheless Lowe's comments on the value of interaction can't be disputed.
Looks like the transition from DVD to game began some months ago, when Kinect joined the Wii as a viable platform for active fitness. Do you think we'll see more
