Less than 30 per cent of gamers who purchased Gears of War 2 took the time to download the free map pack that was included with the game at launch.Epic Games' lead multiplayer designer, Jim Brown, revealed the surprising statistic when discussing the uptake of add-on content. Although DLC "does well... the numbers are never going to compare to the number of people who purchased the game."
"Our Flashback Map Pack, we gave away five or six maps completely free when you bought the game and I think it was less than 30 per cent of people downloaded it," he added. "It was free, in the box, they just never bothered to do it."
The reason for the lack of bite is something that baffles Brown to this day. "Is it a matter of accessibility? Is it people don't like typing in a 16-digit code? What's the reason? It's a weird numbers game."
Beats us. You can't argue with free, after all. Any ideas, readers?
