It only takes one hit to revive the genre - and EA has loads on the way.

EA: We Can Save the Music Genre
Music game genre doom and gloom! Can anyone save the Guitar Heroes and Rock Bands of this world from year-on-year sales decline? EA's music executive Steve Schnur believes that all the industry needs is "one big hit."

Very sage. The executive, who runs EA's music label Artwerk, told MCV that "The video game industry is no different than the movie, music or television business. One big hit will change everything."

He then teased everyone by saying that EA has such hits "on the way." Similar to CEO John Riccitiello's recent comment that the music genre "is going to recover." Wonder if any of those involve rebooting Rock Band in a Call of Duty stylee?

Schnur also talked about video game soundtracks, a topic dear to our hearts at SPOnG. "The industry is just now starting to catch up to what gamers have known for years: that the best game scores can - and should - have the same impact of film scores. And that includes their availability at retail," he said.

More game soundtracks on store shelves? We certainly wouldn't say no. What would you say, readers?

The best music game I've played recently is Def Jam Rapstar. It's a lot more fun than the others and I don't think it's getting enough credit. It's only £29 in ASDA right now so I'd give it a whirl.
