A team of independent developers have clubbed together to offer a second helping of The Humble Indie Bundle, an initiative that shares its proceeds with the Electronic Frontier Foundation and the Child's Play charity.
The Bundle offers five critically acclaimed games - Braid, Cortex Command, Machinarium, Osmos and Revenge of the Titans - for an open price. Customers can choose how much they want to pay and then decide how much of that money goes to the developers, the causes or the Humble Indie organisers themselves.
Games are cross-platform compatible, with versions for Windows, Mac and Linux available, and are DRM-free.
Can't say fairer than that - although you'd think most people would be stingy. Not so - Minecraft creator Markus Persson has donated $2,000 for the five-game pack, while various download stores are paying in excess of $700. Infinity Ward Community Manager, Robert Bowling, paid $500 for his bundle.
Since launching, the initiative has raised over $418,000 (at time of writing), with the average spend on Linux per customer being the greatest at $13.67. Mac users were the second-most generous with an average of $8.03 pp, while the Windows user averaged at $5.91, although the Windows platform has generated the most revenue of the three. 58,967 Humble Indie Bundles have been sold so far.
