Pushing the new technology forward

Sony Develops New Tech for its 3D TV Range
Sony has revealed that it is working on a new type of LCD technology that will aid in improving the presentation of 3D and improve high frame rate video across its range of 3D compatible televisions.

The technology, called Hybrid FPA (field-induced photo-reactive alignment) has a response time of less than three milliseconds together with the new crystal alignment technique that has been developed and will allow Sony' TV panels to last longer and increase its product's stability.

A release date for the first Sony 3DTVs to include this technology has yet to be revealed but if it helps to increase the depth of vision together with the increased use of 3D in games and machines such as the 3DS, we can expect some exciting game playing sessions ahead when the enhanced technology goes to market.

Are you looking forward to the future of gaming that increasingly incorporates 3D technology? Or are you happy with what the games industry has to offer currently? Any thoughts, feel free to post them down below.

After re-arranging my lounge and getting a new cab for the pluggables, I mounted my meagre 32" LCD on the wall this morning. Now that it's up there instead of atop the old cab it looks like a friggin' postage stamp. I want a bigger screen, and I'd love to jump to the 3D for the gaming*, but until the prices drop (plummet, more like) it just isn't going to happen.

I wonder if one could retrofit 3D gaming to an regular HDTV. A custom bit of hardware/dongle plugs into the console's USB port and, under the control of the 3D game coded to support said hardware, switches the glasses' left/right lens. A solid 60fps game could provide 3D at 30fps - should be okay, no?

*because, really, how many people over the age of 10 actually give a toss about 3D TV shows or movies?

I dont think there is anyway of retrofitting HDTV to display 3D, sure i am sure with enough time and money it could be done, but is prolly more expensive than buying a 3D TV, anyhoo i don't see 3D home console gaming becoming anything near as popular as HD until the next gen of consoles which I suspect is at least 3 years away and by then Tesco will more than likely have a sub standard 3D 40" for £350.00 with brand names starting at about £400.00+ and if you google enough today you can pick up a HD3DTV with a BD player and a few pairs of glasses for under £800.00, so its just a case of waiting for the tech prices to drop, well that s my plan!

Im sat here now looking at my Living room 40" Sony 1 x HDMI 720p i paid £999.99 for and on that TV i am watching adverts for 50+ plasmas 5x HDMI 1080p net connected and for £400.00!!

My Games room 32" cost me £249.99 and is 1080p unbelieable amount of conections and to top it has a 5 year warranty! im happy with HD for now, i just replaced all the kids CRT`s this year went from 3 x 15" CRT`s (kids) and one 28" CRT (mine) to 2 x 26" HDTV`s and 2 x 32" TV so im done for a while the living room is next but i want 50+ and funds just dont allow until 3D comes down.

[edit] all the replacement TV`s 2x26" and 2x32" cost less than my Sony!! god dam being an early bird to HD!!!
