Sony Computer Entertainment America has gone and filed seven patents relating to a portable, touch-based device. The patents detail a handheld product that features a visual display on the front, with a touch-based surface on the back controlling certain functions. Speaking of "two-fingered touch," one of the filings notes of products currently on the market that "the user’s fingers often obscure the part that is to be selected." This device would clearly seek to overcome that problem.
Images detail various uses for the input mechanic, demonstrated on an iPad-style device. Text input, folder selection and item magnification can all be achieved by simply tapping your fingers on the back panel.
