Comments by a consultant to the games industry, N'Gai Croal, have shed some light on the wages a writer in the field can expect to earn for engaging in their craft.Asked as to how much a typical writer on the game script of a big title can expect to be remunerated for today, Croal replied, "Game writing pays less than Hollywood writing. A lot less. If you want a Frank Darabont (writer on recent TV adaptation
The Walking Dead), for instance, you need to pay Frank Darabont's quote or you don't get him."
"Every company pays differently, but where a scriptwriter could expect to receive $100,000 for the dialogue in a game a few years ago, these days that sum tends more toward the $20,000 to $10,000 range."
One has to wonder a little why, as game budgets have increased, writers' salaries have gone down. Any ideas? Feel free to post them down below.
