Guess we now know one of the reasons why Kazunori Yamauchi suddenly delayed Gran Turismo 5 for (supposedly) a final time - the Polyphony Digital director has admitted that the game suffers from frame rate drops. For this, he is begging consumers for his forgiveness. When you think about how long
GT5's been in development, having frame rate issues is pretty inexcusable. But Yamauchi, in classic perfectionist fashion, explained that his studio is trying to have the game running in an ambitious 60fps. The game is struggling to do this without the odd drop here and there, and for this the man is deeply apologetic.
Speaking to PSM3 magazine (via
CVG), Yamauchi said, "Our engineers complain every day. 'Isn't it enough that it's in 1080p? Does it have to be 60fps too?' But I think 60fps is very important, so we're working towards perfecting that.
"There might be times when you have a certain combination of conditions that come together – especially with the weather effects – [and] the game might briefly drop from 60fps, and for that I beg your forgiveness! If you're going from a standing start at No.16 and all 15 cars in front of you are kicking up water, there might not be 60fps at that moment."
Hm, we don't know. What do you think, readers? Will you forgive Yamauchi? Or do you just not care at this point and want to play the sodding game right now?
