Foundation 9: 30 Percent of Xbox 360 owners buying XBLA games
James North-Hearn, the CEO of Foundation 9 which is the parent company for developers who worked on digital download titles such as Outrun Online Arcade and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD has declared that XBLA is "past tipping point".

Discussing the number of Xbox 360 owners who are purchasing games via Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA), North-Hearn said his company estimates that around thirty percent of all 360 owners are regularly buying and playing titles via the console's digital-download service. North-Hearn puts the number at 16 million. He said that "It's pretty healthy. 30 per cent of the hardware base is not only online and using Xbox Live, but it's all those and buying games. It's got to be encouraging for that type of distribution going forward."

He also commented on the current state of Sony's Playstation Network, saying that "There's less competition on PSN but currently a smaller user base."

Foundation 9 has six separate game studios under its wing including Backbone Entertainment, Double Helix, Griptonite, ImaginEngine, Pipeworks and Sumo Digital.

North-Hearn has also echoed the voices of others in the industry by stating that he sees the games market moving to an online and digital distribution-only model eventually, though he hasn't gone so far as to say when that will happen.
