The production company behind TV series The X-Factor, FremantleMedia, has increased its stake in the Canadian games developer Ludia, making it the majority owner.
The TV production company has purchased a further 51% stake in Ludia, adding to the 29% it currently owns to hold an 80% stake in the company overall, though the deal is subject to Canadian regulatory approval.
The Canadian developer already creates games based on FremantleMedia's properties which include The Price is Right, Family Feud and Press Your Luck.
The move is part of FremantleMedia's strategy to broaden its business scope and expand into other forms of entertainment outside of television production.
Chief executive of FremantleMedia, Tony Cohen, commented on the partnership saying: "Interactive gaming is an important way for FremantleMedia to diversify and this will increase our expertise and capability in this area, allowing both companies to develop even more successful consumer-facing entertainment across multiple platforms."
Rival TV production company Endemol UK has recently confirmed that it is due to set up an online gaming division for some of its most popular properties.
