Game Group Makes a Concession with Comet
High street retailer GAME and electronics superstore Comet have made a deal where they are due to open six GAME concession stores in Comet outlets across the country by the end of this year.

The first of the six concessions will open in Comet's Croydon store. The remaining five locations have not yet been determined but will launch by the end of this year.

The concessions will be staffed by GAME employees and will operate separately of Comet stores. The Northern Europe MD of GAME, Martyn Gibbs, explained that “This trial partnership will give customers access to our full range of products and specialist services in new out of town and retail park locations.”

We reported recently that GAME is due to close a number of its stores up until 2013. It is also closes the concession stores it currently maintains in Debenhams stores.

Do you think GAME are wise to open new concessions in Comet stores? And will you go visit them once they have been opened? Any thoughts, feel free to post them below.

Pointless, seriously how many people go to Comet for games or even consoles, and how will this affect Comets sales of consoles and games, will Comet not stock games and consoles within those store? I really do not see a point to this, what it does is stink of GAME`s desperation.

Game are in a tough spot. Everyone's buying online, and its surely biting them. Comet isn't a friendly envirionment to buy games in, because their prices are usually enough of a turn off. I think a touch of Game in their stores can only help them, if they are serious about games, like they are about other products.

In an age where even supermarkets take games more seriously than them, something has to be done. Their knowledge might be limited, but they can only learn more about games by trying.

GAME`s major flaw is price!, I can go on-line to GAME`s website and get a recent release for £10.00 cheaper than in-store, alternatively I can walk into any Tesco or Asda and get that game for a few pence cheaper than their on-line store has it, and if I really want I can Google that title and get another £5.00 off it, so what incentive does GAME have to shop in-store. so to put these in Comet really makes no sense to me, maybe I might go in Comet to buy a new TV (highly doubtful!), so lets say I did, maybe just maybe I would impulse buy a PS3 as a BluRay player for my new TV so i pick up a couple of games that are bundled or discounted based on my console purchase, now next time i want a game am I going to return to that Comet store, or will I pick one up with my groceries? it really has no incentive to shop there and sales will be very minimal.

The Debenhams concession made sense as its a department store Debenhams had no games department and used GAME`s service as GAME used Debenhams Service, just like ELC is in there stores too. If anything GAME is wasting money adding stores into Comet they will need to pick which stores they use very carefully, as footfall will need to be huge!
