A recent survey carried out by the research firm Interpret has shown that consumers are still unsure of the benefits that 3D technology can offer them. The survey covered 1500 consumers from the ages 12-65 to find out their views on the re-emerging technology and whether they intend to buy a 3D TV in the future.
Of the findings from the survey, Inerpret's Michael Cai explained the issue with 3D glasses was brought up repeatedly. Their physical discomfort and expense were highlighted major as issues. This accounted for 46% of people in the survey who said they would not get a 3D TV. This, however, paled in comparison to the 69% of consumers surveyed who highlighted that cost was the major reason for them not investing in a 3D TV right now.
Cai also highlighted that consumer's perception of how 3D works is a potential barrier to the technology's acceptance among the public. He highlighted that 63% of console owners thought that they only needed a firmware update to gain 3D on their TVs and 83% thinking that they only need a pair of 3D specs to enjoy the technology.
Do you agree with Cai's findings or do you think that the general public 'get' what 3D is about this time around and will swallow it up in the next couple of years? Post any thoughts in the comments below.
