Nintendo has announced that the 3DS will launch in Japan on the 26th February 2011, with a European and North American release to follow in March.
During a Japanese press conference last night, Nintendo added that the new handheld will sell for 25,000 Yen in Japan and come bundled with a 2GB SD card. Specific launch plans and prices for Western territories will come later.
Company president Satoru Iwata revealed that Game Boy and Game Boy Advance titles will be offered digitally as Virtual Console games. "Classic games" will be remade in 3D, and Miis will be made available for the device.
Using a Mii Creation application, players can take a photo of their face and have that slapped on a little virtual person. Such Miis can be transferred to other SD cards and shared among friends. A new Mii Tag Plaza will allow users to connect with one another, even when the 3DS is in Sleep Mode. This is how many games, like Ridge Racer, will use the 'always-on' invitation ability mentioned earlier this year.
Finally, Nintendo presented a video alongside the re-affirming of third party support, from the likes of Capcom, Konami and Level-5. Watch the video below, and giggle at the marriage of gory Biohazard Revelations footage with a cheery musical backdrop.
