Wedbush Morgan analyst and video game industry soothsayer Michael Pachter has spoken out against Sony's handheld strategy and suggests the company implement 3D into a PSP2.Speaking of the rumoured handling of a new PlayStation Portable in developer's hands, Pachter declared that he is "completely baffled by Sony's PSP strategy," and that "if [it was] really smart, [it would] emulate the 3DS and put a 3D screen on the PSP2."
One of the only things that could save the PSP at this stage, the analyst hinted, is that its price point is considered "a bargain" next to Nintendo's upcoming $249 3DS. If Sony keeps the PSP at $169, it might be seen as a suitable alternative. Besides that, Pachter maintains that "price is an issue."
Finally, a bit of swiping to add context to the Pach Predictions. "[Sony] owned the portable entertainment market with the Walkman, and sat back and watched as Nintendo dominated games and Apple dominated music," the analyst said.
"They never quite got it right with an MP3 player, and their initial effort in games was a bit too pricey and sophisticated for the majority of the portable gaming market (kids under 13)."
