If you’re thinking about picking up a PS2 in the new few weeks, it might be worth delaying the purchase. A PlayStation 2 price drop is imminent.
This strategic move has been expected for a while. As November brings the release of the GameCube and Xbox in America, the price of the PS2 will be lowered to compete with the new technology.
A price drop as high as $100 or £100 is expected. This will make the PS2 an even more attractive proposition.
The GameCube will retail for $149.99 and Xbox comes with a recommended retail price of $299.99. Both of these consoles are significantly more powerful than Sony’s PS2.
Although, the additional PS2 40 GB hard drive and broadband adapter will cost an additional $100, bringing the total cost back to the starting price. These optional accessories enable on-line gaming and Internet access.
The price cuts are likely to be mirrored in Europe either before the Christmas rush, or just before the two new consoles arrive. A PlayStation 2 platinum range is also on the cards.
