PC download website Good Old Games has unexpectedly announced the closure of the service in its "current form" with a promise to return with a different business approach soon.Launched in 2008, the site offered DRM-free retro PC games for customers to download. No deep explanation for its closure was given, with the team stating on a holding page that "we have recently had to give serious thought to whether we could really keep GOG.com the way it is.
"We've debated on it for quite some time and, unfortunately, we've decided that GOG.com simply cannot remain in its current form. This doesn't mean the idea behind GOG.com is gone forever. We're closing down the service and putting this era behind us as new challenges await."
Existing GoG.com customers have been unable to access the games they have purchased, according to GI.biz, while the CD Projekt joint CEO Michael Kicinsk recently appeared on Polish website
Bankier.pl and asked people to "not panic" over the circumstances.
We hope that it will return in some form soon. It was a cracking website.
