Epic Games announced its first game for the iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad devices at Apple's media-centric conference last night.Codenamed '
Project Sword,' the title is described as a "gorgeous, action-based role playing adventure" by Epic President Mike Capps. Gameplay shown was set around a medieval citadel in a first-person perspective, with two virtual thumbsticks controlling movement and camera angles.
The game will be using Unreal Engine 3 to create detailed environments, like the one you can see in the image above. Look at it - lovely, isn't it?
The audience was also treated to a brief multiplayer mode that takes advantage of Apple's upcoming 'Game Center' backend for matchmaking and friend lists. Battles with other players can be set up, with attacks made by either swiping the touch screen or lining up specific attacks like a traditional RPG.
Project Sword won't be ready until this holiday season but if you just can't wait you can grab a version of the game right now on iTunes.
Epic Citadel allows you to explore the detailed world that was shown off at the conference, and its a free App to boot. Go do it now.
Mark Rein showed Mark SPOnG a 'tech demo' at Gamehorizon that had a
lot in common with
Project Sword and
Epic Citadel. He assures us it looks quite beautiful. You can find out more about Epic's iPhone push
