Nintendo has announced that the DSi and DSi XL are due to receive a reduction in price as of September 12th in the US.

The DSi model will get a $20 price cut, which will bring the RRP of the handheld down to $149.99. The DSi XL is getting the same reduction and coming down from $189.99 to $169.99. There's no change for the DS Lite, which sticks at $129.99

No word yet on whether a we'll get a similar price cut for Europe.

"We know shoppers want to get the maximum value out of every dollar they spend," uttered Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive VP of sales & marketing. well this can either mean, 3DS is out the xmas in the states and clear out of old stock with reduced prices, or they are trying to extend a little life in the DS until next year when 3DS is released, either way were none the wiser.
