Microsoft Game Studios GM Dave Luehmann has assured core PC gamers that, despite recent attempts at reaching out to the casual gamer, it has plans to still cater for the 'core' users who want to take advantage of powerful gaming rigs.Along with
Age of Empires Online - which seems
a bit like a casual departure to us - and Microsoft Flight, the company announced at Gamescom that
Fable III is in development for the PC as well. And more are to come.
"There are other products, and I can think of one in particular, that will really encourage that type of behaviour," Luehmann said to
VG247. "There’ll be more announcements, there’ll be more products over the next 24 months, as there have been rolling up to now. We don’t have specific titles that we’re talking about, but there’s more in the development queue than you’ve seen."
It seems that Microsoft is keen to try and burn the candles at both ends, but perhaps 'riggers' want to see a bit more dedication to their cause than a simultaneous release of an Xbox 360 title. For what it's worth, Luehmann opined, "I think you need to go where your audience is."
"Think of it as a barrier to entry. So, there’s a cost barrier to entry, there’s a hardware requirement barrier to entry. Using web games as an example, think about that funnel, from very, very casual to core MMO players. How do you bring your customers into a funnel, into a relationship with a company and then give them lots of different product offerings? If they want to go deeper into that funnel, we’ve got a good option."
