SEGA Won't Kill Sonic 3 in 3D

Fan's efforts draws creators attention

SEGA Won't Kill Sonic 3 in 3D
Mostly as a result of ardent internet users bombarding the company with messages, SEGA has commented on a video of a 3D remake of old-school platformer Sonic 3 and the comments are highly supportive.

In its blog post the company highlight that the Youtube video is a rendered fan video animated over the top of the original game as it plays out. Therefore is not truly a remake in the strictest sense. SEGA does, however, appreciate the efforts the creator had gone to in realising a 3D version of the old classic.

Would you play the old Megadrive Sonic games again if they were released in full 3D but kept the 2D layout intact? Tell us yes or no in the comments below and check out the video underneath to see what the fuss is about

I don't know to be honest, while I want remakes of FFVII and the remake of tomb raider happened and was excellent I'm kinda thinking I like to keep those sonic games in nostalgia land, but it might be nice.

I like the style. However, an exact copy of Sonic 3, I don't think I would buy.

What the artist here has done is capture the essence of the original Sonic in 3D, however. This is what's needed. On the other hand, it's kind of a shame to even try to emulate the old Sonics. There has to be something innovative to add other than 3D, or it's just 3D for the sake of it. Someone still needs to find the correct balance for Sonic - somewhere in between "copying the original because it was a success", "adding 3D to keep up to date" and "adding new ideas while maintaining the essence of what was good about original Sonics".

Even a small addition, and I would buy this. But there has to be something new about it other than just graphics. How about an online system for user-designed levels?

@realvictory

not for me, if all they did was make the old Sonics 3D like the vid I'd buy them, I'm not saying new levels wouldn't be welcome but they wouldn't be needed either.
