BioShock Infinite Forget Big Daddy - Welcome Handyman
Irrational Games has revealed the name of the big hand that is seen in the premičre trailer for BioShock: Infinite - say hello to Handyman.

The huge metallic hand is seen fighting a man before snatching the female lead, Elizabeth, away at the end of the trailer. On the studio's latest podcast, concept artist Rob Waters explains that originally, Handyman was a giant set of metallic claws instead.

"Crabman didn’t end up working out because he couldn’t grab a guy and shove him in a fish tank very gracefully, and he ended up looking a little goofy in-game," Waters revealed. Lead artist Shawn Robertson said that the change from claws to hand was an attempt to build a 'Big Daddy'-esque character with human characteristics.

"Levine’s problem [with Crabman] was a gameplay thing," added art director Nate Wells. "Here’s a classic case of a trailer causing one choice to be made which then has repercussions in the game. It actually turns out to be a really good thing."

It was revealed that Handyman's original gameplay functionality was to punch, and so claws ended up being out of the question. "By the time we’d done a prototype [it] was like, ‘Well, this guy should grab, not punch.’ You punch with fists. So he evolves again and he actually gets hands." Plus, having hands is more 'scary' than claws anyway. So they say.
