Exclusive, but for how long? Capcom speaks inside.

At a recent press conference in Tokyo, Capcom of Japan mentioned that the recently announced exclusivity deal with Nintendo might come to an end sooner than originally thought.

The statement went like this: “Nintendo has been very, very anxious about pursuing this series. They approached us about it. Heritage-wise, since the glory days of the NES and Super NES, this is simply a continuation of our decision to work closely with Nintendo. Both companies are looking to grow and expand; it was very smart for Capcom to make this decision. And PlayStation gamers shouldn't feel like they're losing out. After all, we have two of the biggest series on the PlayStation 2 - Devil May Cry and Onimusha. It is not an indefinite announcement. It doesn't mean that this is a permanent fixture. The agreement, to my knowledge, is for six Resident Evil games on GameCube. It's not forever. We're going to see how this goes as we move into the future.”

To be honest, it is unlikely that Capcom will precipitate this exclusivity any longer than necessary. In around a year or so, following the six games for GameCube, you will see Capcom officials snuggling up to Sony and Microsoft at some press conference somewhere, announcing the latest RE title.

It all generates headlines!
